Sekolah Sri Utama (SSU) is a co-educational (boys and girls) institution. Bahasa Malaysia is the medium of instruction (as per the policy set by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. However, a strong emphasis is placed on the use of English, both written and oral (also in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy.

The SSU Curriculum consists of all major Malaysian national examinations including:

• Primary: The Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah also known as Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR, translation: Primary School Evaluation Test), which is a national examination taken by all Standard 6 (12-year old) students in Malaysia.
• Lower Secondary: Penilaian Menengah Rendah (commonly abbreviated as PMR; meaning Lower Secondary Assessment) is a Malaysian public examination taken by all Form Three students in both government and private schools throughout the country.
• Upper Secondary: The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), or the Malaysian Certificate of Education, is a national examination taken by all fifth-year secondary school students in Malaysia.
